Edgewater Wireless Systems Inc., a leader in next generation WiFi technology has announced the first shipment of its next generation WiFi3 equipment to World Affinity Telecom.

Telecommunications solutions specialist, World Affinity Telecom will be using Edgewater Wireless' WiFi3 technology as the foundation for a national WiFi network in Sierra Leone that will bring data communications to the country and its people.

This will be Africa's first national WiFi network.

This is the first shipment from the contract announced in July, 2012 that was recently increased to $6.7 million to accommodate the overwhelming support for the development of the first project phase of the multi-phase WiFi deployment. The scope of the contract has been expanded to include services and networking equipment.

Sierra WiFi, World Affinity Telecom's local operating company, in its commitment to social development, will deploy this first shipment of equipment to schools to deliver a WiFi enabled education portal. This is the first phase of a broad network that will extend to hospitals.

The emerging growth of Sierra Leone is creating large demand for improved communications infrastructure throughout the country. WiFi3 technology will enable World Affinity Telecom to operate a fast, stable and secure WiFi network beginning in Freetown and extending to the rest of Sierra Leone.

"The People of Sierra Leone have expressed overwhelming enthusiasm for the national deployment of low cost, high speed Wifi internet access and that has been our driving force. The kind support of President Ernest Bai Koroma has also been inspiring," said Anthony Melhem, President of World Affinity Telecom.

"Freetown is ready, the country is booming. This is the right time to invest."

Edgewater Wireless WiFi3 technology enables 3-channels on a single radio - leveraging over 20 industry leading patents to deliver the improved performance by eliminating issues like Adjacent Channel Interference - inherent in single channel WiFi solutions. WiFi3 also offers service providers unparalleled flexibility to layer revenue-generating services and applications across three channels. WiFi3 also delivers enhanced security for network operators through the Company's exclusive Spectral Surveillance Architecture (SSA(TM)) which can be used to identify and manage threats to the network from hackers, interference and rogue access points.

"We are tremendously pleased to be providing the wireless equipment and engineering know-how to form the communications infrastructure for World Affinity Telecom," said Andrew Skafel, President of Edgewater Wireless.

"World Affinity Telecom is a strong and valuable partner for Edgewater Wireless. They recognize the inherent value of WiFi?, and the simplicity of installation and management of our technology, which was critical to creating the first WiFi network in Sierra Leone."
